ARE YOU READY FOR A LONG TERM COMMITMENT?
Before you adopt a Pet, take a minute to think about how long that Pet is likely to be around.
Snakes, can live for decades. some breeds of Dogs can live for 15 years. A young healthy african gray Parrot may live for 60 to 70 years- which means she may even outlive you. Before taking in a pet, think about what will happen to her if something should happen to you. Find a friend or relative who will be willing to care for the animal or who can find a good home for her. State your wishes in your will. Otherwise, your Pets will be considered property of the estate and may be inherited by someone who doesn't want them.
If you're not in a position to make a long-term commitment , think about adopting a fish or a mouse, which is not likely to need decades of care.
Knowing your Pet's life expectancy at the beginning of your relationship can prepare you for potentially early demise or a lifelong commitment.
